Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 31, 2026 · Effective: May 31, 2026
The short version

The Axel app does not collect anything. We don't track you, there are no accounts, and your data — practice progress, behind-the-wheel log, everything — is stored only on your device and never leaves it unless you choose to export or share it.

This website is simply a place to learn about and download the app. It uses basic Google Analytics to count visits and measure traffic — nothing more. The two are completely separate: using the website is optional, and the app never phones home.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy covers two separate things, which we treat very differently:

  • The Axel app — the iOS application you install and use to study for your permit and log driving hours. It collects no data and tracks nothing.
  • This website (axel.app) — an informational site whose only purpose is to advertise the app and let you learn about it, download it, read this policy, and reach support. It uses basic analytics to measure traffic.

Throughout this policy, "we" and "us" refer to the makers of Axel. Wherever a practice applies to only the app or only the website, we say so explicitly.

2. What we collect

From the app: nothing. Axel does not require an account, a login, or an email address to use. We do not collect personal information, usage analytics, advertising identifiers, or location data through the app. In Apple's App Store privacy terms, the Axel app is classified as "Data Not Collected."

  • No account or sign-in is required.
  • No analytics or tracking SDKs are embedded in the app.
  • No advertising or third-party ad networks.
  • No device location is transmitted to us.

From this website: we use Google Analytics to measure aggregate traffic (such as page views and general location at the country/region level). See Website analytics below. This is separate from the app, which remains fully on-device.

3. Data stored on your device

To make the app work, Axel saves certain information locally on your device only. This includes:

  • The state you select for study.
  • Your practice-test answers, scores, and progress.
  • Your behind-the-wheel drive log, including the duration, date, and any notes you record.
  • App preferences and settings.

This information stays on your device. We cannot see it, and it is not transmitted to our servers (we don't operate any). If you delete the app, this data is removed with it. If your device has iCloud backup enabled, your data may be included in your own encrypted Apple backup — that backup is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not ours.

Location while logging a drive

If you use the optional drive-logging feature, Axel may use your device's location while a drive is active to estimate distance and route — on your device, in real time. This location data is stored locally as part of your drive log and is never sent to us or any third party. You can disable location access at any time in your device's Settings; the rest of the app continues to work.

4. Website analytics

This website (not the app) uses Google Analytics, a service provided by Google, to help us understand how visitors find and use the site — for example, which pages are viewed and roughly where traffic comes from. To do this, Google Analytics sets cookies and processes limited information such as your IP address (typically truncated/anonymized by Google), browser type, device type, and the pages you visit.

  • We use this data only in aggregate to improve the site. We do not use it to identify you personally.
  • This applies to web pages only. The app contains no analytics and is unaffected.
  • Information collected through Google Analytics is processed by Google under Google's Privacy Policy and Analytics terms.

Opting out

You can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites by installing Google's opt-out browser add-on, by blocking cookies in your browser, or by using your browser's "Do Not Track" / privacy settings.

5. Information you send when you contact us

If you email us or submit the form on our Support page, we receive the information you choose to provide — typically your name, email address, and the contents of your message. We use this only to respond to your request and resolve your issue. We do not use it for marketing, and we do not sell it. Support correspondence is retained only as long as needed to assist you and keep a basic record of the request.

6. Children's privacy

Axel is intended for learner-driver candidates, who are often minors (commonly ages 15–17). Because the app collects no personal information, it does not knowingly gather data from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has sent us personal information through support, contact us and we will delete it.

7. Third-party services

The app itself includes no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store; Axel never receives your payment card details, and Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's own policies. This website uses two third-party services: Google Analytics (see Website analytics) and Google Fonts to render type — when your browser loads a font, your IP address is visible to Google as part of that request. If you submit the support form, your message is delivered through a form-handling provider solely to reach our inbox.

8. Your rights & choices

  • Access & deletion: Because your data lives on your device, you control it directly — clear it in-app or by deleting the app.
  • Location: Grant or revoke location access anytime in your device Settings.
  • Website analytics: Opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out add-on or by blocking cookies.
  • Support records: To request deletion of any message you've sent us, contact us using the details below.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA. Since we don't collect or sell personal data, most of these rights are satisfied by design — but you're always welcome to reach out with questions.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change how Axel handles information, we'll update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or on this site.
